Diana Hoffman is a member of the Far West Region NPWS Advisory Committee.
What motivated you to become involved?
I have always been interested in the importance of understanding and preserving our Australian bushland for future generations, and the opportunity to be more involved at local, regional and State level was a chance not to be missed.
What do you get out of being in this role?
Through my membership I am able to have input into the development of management plans for our national parks and to study policy decisions which may affect them. It has broadened my understanding of the natural environment as well as looking at the importance and value of tourism and recreational activities in an overall scheme.
What challenges have you faced in this role?
As with many organisations knowing what the protocols are is a fast learning experience. A good working principle is when in doubt ask!
Where do you get your support?
From family and friends with similar interests, but particularly, my fellow members of the Advisory Committee. In addition I cannot speak highly enough of the help I get from within the NPWS itself at all levels.
What is your final message to other women wanting to be more involved in decision-making?
If you get the chance, take it! Try something new. Build on the interests and skills you have.
