NSW Treasury Loan Fund

The $40 million NSW Treasury Loan Fund is available to NSW Government budget-dependent agencies to help them finance water and energy efficiency upgrades.

This low-interest loan program is administered by the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) on behalf of NSW Treasury. It helps agencies implement projects that save water and energy, save on water and energy bills, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help meet NSW Government Sustainability Policy targets.

Once the loans are repaid, agencies keep the savings from their utility bills.

How to access the NSW Treasury Loan Fund

For upgrades costing between $10,000 and $500,000 (or $1 million for Department of Health Projects), finance is provided under the Government Energy and Water Efficiency Investment Program (GEEIP).

For larger projects, finance is delivered through Performance Contracts.

Who can apply?

The funding is available to all budget-dependent Government agencies. The 2008-09 list of budget dependent government agencies is available from the NSW Treasury website.

Since 1998, 26 NSW Government agencies have invested more than $49.4 million in 42 projects to improve energy and water efficiency.

They include 19 Performance Contract projects, totalling $44.7, and 23 GEEIP projects totalling $4.7 million. These projects are now saving $8.1 million a year in energy costs and 57,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
